Day 14 – 9/14/15
It’s the end of week 2 – huzzah!
I’m really excited to have my friend Shirley over for dinner tomorrow. She’s interested to see what my dinner is on the $50/mo challenge (and to taste it of course), and I’m happy to play hostess. On the menu, vegetarian Hong Kong-style borscht and rice.
I went grocery shopping today and picked up 5 pounds of potatoes ($1.50) and a 3 pound head of cabbage ($1.59). Hong Kong-style borscht is usually made with ox tail or beef, but I had to cut back to stick to my budget. I already had a can of tomatoes and 2 heads of garlic in the pantry. I even splurged on some cilantro ($1).
I also picked up a carton of eggs for the week ahead ($3) for Chawanmushi. Maybe I’ll make some egg fried rice, too. Yum.
And I promise to take pictures of the meal tomorrow!
Congee (皮蛋粥) – $0.28
Fried potato strings with rice– $0.29
Banana – $0.19
Chow Mian ~$0.96 (with 1 egg)
1 Godiva chocolate sample – Free
